Frank Sinatra was known for his Jack Daniel’s, but sometimes he went for the grape. “I have given up the hard booze and I discovered a marvelous wine and that’s what I’ve been drinking,” the crooner said in a product endorsement. “On cold mornings, I heat it up before I go outside. It’s called Mouton Cadet. It’s by the Rothschild family. It’s a hell of a wine.”
That bit of Rat Pack cred was introduced in an audio clip at the relaunch of Mouton Cadet on April 26, at the Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health. Larry Ruvo, senior managing director of Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits of Nevada, recalled the original launch in 1969 at the Sands Hotel.
The relaunch was presented by Philippe Sereys de Rothschild, whose grandfather created Mouton Cadet in 1930.
“My grandfather’s idea … was to make Bordeaux wine accessible to everybody,” he said. “Everybody is allowed to drink wine, and everybody is allowed to drink good wine.”
“You’re going to see Mouton up and down the Strip … throughout the stores and local restaurants,” Ruvo said. “It’s a great product.”
