Consume with a view

NEW REFLECTION BAY GRILL MIRRORS GRANDEUR OF LAKE LAS VEGAS

There’s a new dining option at Lake Las Vegas, and the view from it is nothing short of luxurious.

Reflection Bay Grill opened in late spring on the lower floor of the clubhouse at Reflection Bay Golf Club on Montelago Boulevard, around the lake from Montelago Village. Scott Commings, season 12 winner of Gordon Ramsay’s “Hell’s Kitchen,” who helms the kitchen at Freedom Beat at the Downtown Grand, is the chef.

The restaurant, which at one time was a bar, has a view across the beach, bay and lake to the scenic residences on the opposite shore. A patio near the beach has been added for alfresco dining, and there’s a dock for those who arrive by boat. The scenic view makes it a particularly popular spot for weddings in the private banquet area or on the upstairs open-air terrace.

Commings said he did a staycation at Lake Las Vegas shortly after moving to Henderson three and a half years ago and fell in love with the lake-centered community. For about 18 months, he’s been catering private events and consulting in conjunction with Raintree Investment Corp., which is leading redevelopment efforts. And he has big plans for the restaurant.

“We want it to conform with the experience of being out here,” he said. “Somewhere to land after a round of golf, or for the local community.”

The challenge confronted by country-club restaurants everywhere — to serve both the golfer who may want just a sandwich and beer after a hot round, as well as the local resident coming by for a relaxing lunch with a view — is familiar to Commings, and to meet it, he has kept the menu fairly simple. He’s in the process of retooling it, but the most recent version listed sandwiches such as a chicken BLT and a Cuban, salads such as Asian chicken and Cobb, a variety of burgers, and snacks such as house-made chips with French onion dip.

Since it opened, the restaurant’s hours have been 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, serving breakfast and lunch, plus happy hour from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursdays, with $8 burgers and sandwiches, half-priced appetizers and cocktail and draft-beer specials. In mid-April he introduced the Fish & Friends dinner from 4 to 8 p.m. Fridays, and Brunch on the Bay from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays will be offered beginning this month.

Memorial Day will bring a bayside celebration, with a movie on the water May 25, and a wine and food festival, with more than 30 wineries, on May 27.
